People with Substance Use Disorders Benefit from Treatment Initiated in the Emergency Department

Patients with opioid use disorder are more likely to receive treatment for substance use disorders and reduce long-term opioid use if treatment is begun in the emergency department (ED), according to a new Yale study. There is growing evidence that medication-assisted treatment initiated through ED and continued in primary care, improves outcomes for patients as long as the intervention is continued.
