Chain Pharmacy Limits Access to Prescriptions for Opioid Pain Medications

A national pharmacy chain will limit opioid pain reliever prescriptions to seven days or less for patients with acute pain who haven’t previously taken an opioid medication. The pharmacy will also limit patients with chronic pain to a maximum daily dose of 90 morphine milligram equivalents (MMEs). The company based its limits on the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s controversial guideline for prescribing opioids for chronic pain in primary care settings.  Read more here.
