HHS Secretary Contradicts Guidance, Says Addiction Medicines Are “Substituting One Opioid for Another”
U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Tom Price earlier this week stated that medications to treat opioid addiction are “just substituting one opioid for another,” contradicting guidance from HHS. Years of scientific studies finding that access to medications for opioid use disorder – such as buprenorphine or methadone – make addicted individuals more likely to recover.
