NJ Legislation Could Require Insurers To Cover Abuse-Deterrent Pain Medications

New Jersey lawmakers are considering legislation that would require insurance companies to cover abuse-deterrent pain medications, which are pills that are very difficult to crush or cook. Legislation that would require state-regulated health plans to cover abuse-deterrent pain medications was vetoed by Governor Chris Christie in 2016, but a similar measure has been approved by an Assembly committee but has not yet been considered by the New Jersey Senate Health Committee.
