Opioid Overdose Deaths for Women Are Increasing

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has reported that between 1999 and 2010, the percentage increase in the rate of opioid overdose deaths was greater for women than for men. CDC said women are more likely to have chronic pain, be prescribed prescription painkillers, be given higher doses, use them for longer time periods, and that women may become dependent on prescription painkillers more quickly than men.
