CLAAD supports a balanced approach to prescription drug policy. Efforts to prevent abuse must not impede consumer access to high-quality health care. We develop policy recommendations in this area by gathering and synthesizing information, conducting original scholastic research, and drawing on the expertise of our grassroots network and coalition members in the field.
CLAAD’s policy positions are established through a consensus process, in which at least 80 percent of the participants must represent not-for-profit organizations. This rule of governance ensures that the public interest drives CLAAD’s priorities, as opposed to the interests of individual stakeholders.
CLAAD’s policy recommendations are disseminated through our work products, which include the National Prescription Drug Abuse Prevention Strategy, public outreach through the news media (see our CLAAD in the Media page), and direct outreach to policy makers.
