Pres. Obama: Limiting Opioid Prescriptions Will Not Fix the Opioid Abuse Epidemic

The White House, South Facade, Washington DCOn Monday, President Obama called for a national strategy to address the current opioid abuse epidemic. Speaking with governors from across the country, the President declined to endorse a proposal that would limit the number of prescription opioids that a practitioner could prescribe at one time noting that patients with pain have a legitimate need for the medications, and the bill could unfairly restrict access for them. He noted, “If we go to doctors right now and say ‘Don’t overprescribe’ without providing some mechanisms for people in these communities to deal with the pain that they have or the issues that they have, then we’re not going to solve the problem, because the pain is real.” Read more here.
