Senators Call for GAO To Determine if More Oversight of “Sober Homes” Is Needed

A group of senators lead by Sen. Chris Murphy wrote to the U.S. Government Accountability Office (GAO) last week asking it to investigate state and federal oversight of “sober homes” after a rash of overdoses. Sober homes – places that provide shelter for people recovering from substance use disorders – are not typically subject to state regulation because they generally do not offer treatment. The senators have also asked the GAO to assess the effectiveness of services offered through sober living homes. Read more here.
