Former federal prosecutor Kate Nicholson discusses her experiences living with pain for nearly two decades and safely using opioids for pain management. She examines how the current approaches to addressing the opioid overdose epidemic often focus on the subset of patients who abuse their pain medication, which hurts patients who responsibly use opioid medications to manage chronic pain. Nicholson recommends ways to reduce the risk of opioid-related harm, such as developing abuse-deterrent medications and including pain treatment in medical school curricula. Watch the video here.
