The_HillToday, The Hill’s Congressional Blog posted an op-ed from CLAAD’s Law Enforcement Liaison Marc Harrold, entitled “Law Enforcement Needs Our Help in Responding to Heroin Crisis.” In the op-ed, Harrold notes that the burden of dealing with the opioid abuse crisis has fallen largely on the shoulders of law enforcement officials and asks policy makers and the public for assistance. He identifies inadequacies in the prosecution and incarceration model in reducing the consumer demand underlying the prescription drug abuse and heroin epidemic. He then calls for expanding treatment and rehabilitation for incarcerated individuals with substance use disorders who often lack access to necessary medications. Read the full op-ed here.
